If you’ve ever looked at your kitchen and wished for a refresh without the upheaval of a full renovation, then Jennifer’s stunning kitchen makeover is sure to inspire you.

With just a little chalk paint and creativity, she turned her dated wooden cupboards into a stylish and contemporary space full of personality.

Learning how to transform kitchen cabinets with chalk paint is easier than you might think, and Jennifer’s project shows just how effective a simple colour update can be.

A Bold Yet Timeless Colour Choice

Jennifer had already painted her upper cabinets in a soft, neutral mushroom shade, but she felt her kitchen still lacked something special. That’s where Frida Blue came in.

This rich, vibrant shade was the perfect contrast to the neutral tones, bringing a fresh, modern feel to her kitchen. To tie the look together, she added coordinating blue curtains and beautiful blue cushions (sourced from Source for the Goose!) for her kitchen chairs.

The result? A cohesive and inviting space that feels bright, fresh, and full of character.

A Simple but Effective Painting Process

One of the joys of using chalk paint is how easy it is to work with. Jennifer simply:

Cleaned the cupboards thoroughly to remove any grease buildup.
Applied Frida Blue directly onto the wood—no sanding or priming needed!
Finished with a wax top coat to enhance the depth of colour and give a soft, durable finish.

Jennifer loved how quick and effortless the process was—no need for a lengthy kitchen overhaul!

This is how the kitchen looked before Jennifer made the changes; as you can see it really has transformed her space.

A Personal Touch with Leftover Paint

Not wanting to waste any of her beautiful blue paint, Jennifer got even more creative—she hand block-printed a lampshade, bringing another unique detail into her kitchen.

It’s a perfect example of how a single colour choice can influence a whole room’s design, from furniture to accessories.
