Reflecting on 2024: 10 Beautiful Images to Inspire Your Vintage Home

Reflecting on 2024: 10 Beautiful Images to Inspire Your Vintage Home

As the year comes to a close, it's the perfect time to pause and reflect on many of the beautiful items at Source for the Goose that have inspired vintage-style homes throughout 2024. I’ve loved curating timeless treasures, sharing unique finds, and helping you bring vintage charm into your spaces. To celebrate, I’ve gathered 10 beautiful images from the past year that capture the essence of a vintage home—filled with character, creativity, and nostalgia. Whether it’s carefully sourced antique furniture, hand-painted pieces, or thoughtfully chosen accessories, I hope these snapshots inspire your own vintage journey in the year ahead.

One - Olive has been top of the list of colours for homes this year, and this painted piece shows how a modern pine cupboard can be given the 'vintage' look with a lick of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. Customers loved the pop of colour as you look inside - and this item soon went off to its new home.

Two - This Antique Pine Linen press was a real vintage showstopper - you will notice that this is a marriage of two pieces, but doesn't it work well and really ticks the box for make do and mend.

Three - This fabulous oak coffer was probably the heaviest item of furniture I have ever had in the shop - it took three of us to lift it in! With a cupboard door cunningly disguised in the panelling in the front this coffer was so much more useful than if it was just access from the lidded top. It is now enjoying life in a farmhouse on Exmoor!

Four - Annie Sloan had recently introduced a fab new colour called Capability Green, so when I sourced this sweet little enamel top cupboard I could see this was the colour it needed to be. As you can see it gave it a wonderfully retro feel; you could imagine this in a 1950s kitchen filled with tin goods!

Five - as a Chalk Paint stockist I had the pleasure of visiting Annie Sloan HQ in February for some refresher training. It was wonderful to be among so much Chalk Paint inspiration and to be able to bring it back to help others learn how to use this fabulous paint to transform their furniture and home.

Six - One of my favourite displays in the shop this year; with the indigo blues providing the perfect foil for some wonderful antique pine pieces that were picture perfect for any rustic kitchen.

Seven - it's Summer and the shop is spilling over onto the pavement outside showcasing some fabulous gardenalia that really shout vintage, cottage garden style. Picture this pretty bistro set placed under a tree ready to serve up a picnic lunch or an afternoon tipple!

Eight - I was really honoured to be chosen to host a Joy of Painting masterclass at Source for the Goose with Annie Sloan brand ambassador Tristan Merriam. Tristan brought his joie de vivre to South Molton and we spent two days learning nine painting techniques using Chalk Paint. You can tell by our faces how much we all enjoyed ourselves.

Nine - sometimes a piece is just calling out to be painted and this was one of them. From a very dated cream, I created this beautiful duck egg blue cupboard with a gorgeous French feel. I had hardly out down my paintbrush and it had sold. In fact, this was the only photo ever taken of it, as it was out of the door so fast!

Ten - and finally Christmas arrived at Source for the Goose, and its the time of year when the shop really comes into its own for providing displays that are all about nostalgia and tradition. This year the back of the shop had the sweetest little French bed as the starting point for the theme. I was able to source a pair of bedside tables that I painted to reflect this vintage French look and, et voila the scene was set!
